Children’s treatments

General practitioners, paediatricians, orthopaedic surgeons, paediatric physiotherapists and clinic sisters, along with parents and grandparents refer children to us for many reasons. These may include foot and leg abnormalities, inherited conditions, poor walking positions, late walking or growing pains.

It’s essential that we assess children as early as possible. Bearing in mind the adage “as the twig is bent, so the tree will grow”, it’s important to understand that not all conditions will be outgrown without some intervention. So it may come as no surprise that around 20% of our patients are aged between 0 and 5 years of age.

Conditions may include:

  • In-toeing or pigeon toeing
  • Toe walking
  • Abnormally flat feet
  • Foot deformities
  • Acute injuries
  • Nail and skin abnormalities
  • Congenital/inherited genetic conditions (eg. charcot-marie-tooth, cerebral palsy, neurological conditions)

The treatment of young babies and walking aged children requires clinical understanding of their development and age.

Our range of treatments include:

  • Manipulation and exercises
  • Corrective splints or casts
  • Corrective or appropriate footwear
  • Corrective in-shoe devices including prescription orthotic devices
  •  Referral to an appropriate specialist
